Casey Fitzgerald Drafted by Buffalo Sabres

 

Casey Fitzgerald, a North Reading,MA native, who played his youth career for the Valley Jr. Warriors was drafted in the third round by the Buffalo Sabres. Fitzgerald, a righty defenseman, currently plays for the Eagles at Boston College, alongside brother Ryan and other former Jr. Warriors Colin White, Brendan Silk, and JD Dudek.

As a freshman, Casey played in 39 games, was the leading defensive scorer (4-23-27), and was named to the Hockey East Pro Ambitions All-Rookie team.  Prior to joining the Eagles, he was a member of the gold-winning U.S. Mens National Under 18 team during 2014-15, the  U.S. Men’s National Under-17 Team in the 2013-14 season and played two seasons at Malden Catholic from 2011-13.

Casey played for the Valley Jr. Warriors from 2009 – 2013, starting as a PeeWee Major and continuing through to U16 before leaving for the U.S. Men’s National team.  The 1997 team routinely made headlines in the hockey world on NHL Draft & USA Development team roll calls.  The team was stacked with stand-out stars like Fitzgerald, Noah Hannifin (Carolina Hurricanes), Colin White (Boston College – Ottawa Senators), Elijah Harris (Brown University), Brent Hill (U Maine), Zachary Mirages (Air Force), and Eric McAdams (USHL – UNH). In two years, the team put together a record of 116–18–3 and finished No. 11 in the nation, then captured the Massachusetts State Championship title fir three years and earned trips to the USA Hockey Nationals, advancing to the semi- and quarter-finals.  They were consistently ranked in the top-10 in the nation.
